PSCTLT Open House a Great Success!
The Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology hosted an
Open House on Monday, April 30th to showcase its new Canyon Park technology
training center. Over 175 people attended the event, which was capped
off with a ribbon-cutting by the PSCTLT Board of Directors. Visitors touring
the center were treated to savory hors d'oeuvres, soothing jazz from
the guitar duo Beautiful Soup and a variety of technology and teaching
demonstrations in each of the new computer labs.
The Learning Space brought together six teachers from their various programs
(Teachers Training Teachers or T3 and Intel Teach to the Future) to showcase
how they are using technology in the classroom to improve learning. The
teachers who participated were Brandi Smith, a kindergarten teacher,
and John Dobmeier, a middle school vocational education teacher, from
the Mukilteo School District and Rebecca Pringle, high school science,
Renee Malowney, high school English and Timothy Arnot, high school English,
from the Edmonds School District.
Pat Coelho, a PSCTLT instructor, gave an overview of the courses the PSCTLT will offer this summer. Catharine Reznicek demonstrated the use of course
management software for online and distance learning, which included the
use of an interactive web-based discussion forum. And, the Cisco lab provided
an arena for six students from Mariner and Mountlake Terrace High Schools
to showcase their cable making skills.
