Endangered Animals
"Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who does nothing because he could only do a little."
Animals all around the world are becoming threatened, endangered and even extinct. Since every specie depends on another if one goes extinct it would be safe to assume another would become extinct. Many animals help to provide our society with food, medicine and shelter. So why are people not helping them? Animals benefit our society so much we should help anyway we can but instead we are the biggest cause of destruction to animals for example, we kill them for sport, skins, body parts, clothing's, and by taking over their habitats. Killing needs to stop so our society will prosper instead of being destroyed. The survival of these creatures are being jeopardized due to, poachers, human construction in necessary habitats, and selling of body parts illegally. This is why endangered animals is a world problem.

What is an endangered animal?
"An endangered species is any species "in danger of extinction through all or a significant portion of its range." A threatened species is any species "which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future."
| Resources: | Basic Overview: |
| Illegal trading | There is legal and illegal trading of wildlife explained on this website. Illegal trading is on a very rapid increase. Many live animals are captured from their habitats and sent over seas to sell as pets, zoo's, or even killed for researched. Most of the time many of these animals don't reach their destination alive. |
| Tigers in India | The population of tigers in India have significantly declined and this websites explains why. |
| Sea animals | Sea World captures animals for display creating a market for over seas animals. Many of these animals are shipped over from countries like Japan. Japan doesn't have laws on capturing and shipping over their sea animals , making it so their population is overexploited. |
| Red list | The "red List" is compiled of many mammals whom are facing extinction around the world. |
| List of endangered animals A-Z | This site has all the threatened and endangered species and their locations. |
| Causes | Animals are becoming threatened, endangered, and even extinct everyday. Most common reason for this is there habitats are being taken over by humans. But, there are also natural causes, industrial, and most commonly humans. |
| Potential endangerment | We use animals for our own entertainment. In this article it talks about how animals in their habitats react to tourists. Animals in the wild are not use to people and react negatively. If these large groups of people continue disturbing these animals in their own habitats these animals might be facing endangerment or extinction. |
| Protecting nesting sites | Indonesia is the most important place for nesting turtles. But, a lot of these turtles are having accidental deaths, being killed, or having to many of their eggs collected. Since the 80's the population of turtles have dropped from 90,000 to 3,000. Which proves that even animals that shouldn't be endangered are becoming. |
| Fur for fashion | Skins from such animals: otters, tigers and leopards have been used for outfits on the cat walk. These skins had been used illegally. It puts animals that are all ready on the threatened list to more risks. |
| Endangered animals in WA | I felt that this website would give more knowledge to the class about Washington's animals and which ones are endangered, threatened, or have lived here but now are extinct. |

Interesting facts
-- The United States currently ranks among the 20 countries with the most endangered species, but that's partly an artifact of the environmental focus here. Madagascar and the Philippines have the highest percentages of their species endangered.
-- Interpol says the animal trade is the world's second-largest illegal business after drug trafficking.
-- Washington has 39 threatened and endangered animals and species.
After reviewing the facts it is clear to see that animals in the wild are slowly falling off the face of the earth. Literally. If nothing is done to preserve them, it is destined that they may not ever ever be seen ever again. The survival of these creatures are being jeopardized due to, poachers, human construction in necessary habitats, and selling of body parts illegally. That's why this is a world problem.
