Curricula Options

Science
Here are a few science curriculum options. Many more can be found on the Internet.

Access Excellence: The Mystery Spot
http://www.accessexcellence.org/AE/mspot/
Great online and offline activities that allow you and your students to solve mysteries using science. Find out what happened to the local frog population, explore Arctica, or use a microscope to solve a mystery. These fourteen activities are designed to show science in a whole new light.

Bridging the Watershed
http://www.bridgingthewatershed.org/students.html
This Web site features online activities that students can complete either individually or in groups. While looking at National Parks in the Washington D.C. area, they can learn the characteristics that can help them identify plants, macroinvertebrates, and fish. They also apply this information to learn which plants, macroinvertebrates, and fish are signs of a healthy watershed. Teachers can use student service project ideas in their communities, or extend the lesson by investigating and comparing local watershed areas.

Science Netlinks
http://www.sciencenetlinks.com/matrix.cfm
Provides a wide range of lessons on science topics such as endangered species, steam engines, satellite orbits, energy, and ecosystems.

Using Kites to Study Aerodynamics
http://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentoring/project_ideas/Aero_p008.shtml?from=Home
Build a kite and study the effect of the bridle point on the kite’s flying.

Ecological Footprint
http://www.myfootprint.org/
Students can study their ecological footprint by taking a quiz.
