Overview
In 2003, the Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology developed an e-mentoring program as part of the TechREACH program to support student interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). TechREACH matches clubs in the program with mentors who work in (STEM) related careers. Female mentors are matched with girl clubs and male mentors are matched with boy clubs. Girls and boys participate in separate TechREACH clubs.
Students and mentors communicate via e-mail
and an online career discussion board
and may
also
participate in face-to-face activities at field trips, club visits,
or TechREACH events. TechREACH
clubs are
located in middle schools throughout Western Washington and Eastern Washington.
TechREACH mentors work in professional careers such as software development, information technology, banking, insurance, biomedical research, environmental science, engineering, and government. Our mentors work for a variety of employers including Boeing, the Washington State Department of Ecology, Microsoft, Expedia, CH2M HILL, the Federal Aviation Administration, Weyerhaeuser, T-Mobile, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and many others.
