NCCE Techscapes - Expanding Learning Environments

BOTHELL, WA - The Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (PSCTLT) will be participating in NCCE Techscapes at the Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, April 23-26,2003. Over the years, NCCE has become the leader in professional development opportunities about integrating technology into the classroom and curriculum of schools in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

PSCTLT Sessions:

• Technology in Every Classroom: Moving Beyond Pockets of Excellence

  Friday from 10:30-11:30 AM
  Providing teachers with opportunities for collaboration and reflection on common problems offers a powerful new model of professional development. Learn how a peer coaching program and intensive learning experiences utilize this model to help teachers develop the skills and abilities they need to integrate technology.
  
  
• Teacher-Coach Models of Professional Development

  The Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology develops innovative professional development models designed to promote technology-rich learning environments. Key success factors will be discussed including lessons learned from teachers, teacher-coaches, and district staff working in PSCTLT programs. Readiness and success characteristics will be shared.
  
  
• The Northwest Girls Collaborative Project

  Numerous Pacific Northwest organizations provide valuable but uncoordinated services related to motivating and supporting girls’ interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This National Science Foundation funded project is increasing collaboration between these organizations via a virtual conference format. Processes, results from program activities and an assessment rubric will be presented.
  
  
• PILOT: Steering You Toward Success with Technology

  Whether you’re a teacher or an administrator, PILOT can steer you in the right direction! PILOT is a free, online, self-assessment tool for you to determine your level of technology proficiency, classroom application, and leadership. You can find workshops to advance your skill level. Comparative charts allow you to gauge your progress.
  
  
• Handhelds: A Computer in the Hand is Worth Ten in the Lab

  Thursday from 12:30-1:30 PM
  How useful is a computer you can fit in your pocket? Handheld computers, or personal digital assistants (PDAs), offer the opportunity to provide new levels of classroom access to technology. A variety of different devices and software will be demonstrated, and the benefits and challenges of implementing this new equipment will be discussed.
